Disclaimer: this is not a political post. This is a "guy thing" post.  >:D

The "forward-thinking entrepreneur of the year" award goes to: whomever registered this domain back on 8/4 of this year.

But I guess I have a dirty mind too.  >:D

The fact that she's a raging statist bent on controlling the lives of others kinda makes me wanna not even go there, but she sure is cute.

Ummm, okay, I really didn't intend this to be a political thread, but: what?

She's pro-life, which I acknowledge means some liberty-lovers think she wants to control their lives. She's a politician running for office, which to anarcho/voluntaryists means she wants to control lives.

But... "raging statist"? Dude, she was seriously discussed in the Ron Paul community as a worthy running mate, along with Mark Sanford of South Carolina. She blew the whistle on corruption in her own party, resigned in protest, and then won an election over those she'd blown the whistle against (some of whom went to prison for corruption). She slashed taxes and government spending. Eliminated her salary as mayor. Eliminated the state trooper security detail and governor's jet, because she can defend herself and has her own float plane for travel.

Seriously... "raging" statist?

Well the fact that she is willing to run with
old doll eyes McCain, is pretty sickening.

Wow.  If that's sickening to you, then the incrementalist philosophy of folks like, say, the NHLA should also be antithetical to your beliefs.  Fact is, many of us believe that it's not only the enemy that should get to use a wedge by starting with the thin end.

As much as I have been disgusted and appalled at the prospect of an Obama presidency, I have been struggling with my dislike of McCain's record and had determined that I would vote for Barr instead.  I never expected Barr to win, and believe that is even less likely now, but was willing to cast my vote in that direction to send a message.  Now I have someone whom I can vote for and defeat Obama.  I couldn't be happier unless it was a Barr/Palin or Paul/Palin ticket, and you know what, let's be honest, those tickets would probably lose to Obama/Biden.

And yeah, we have some things to learn about her.  I don't know her record on right to work and I would like to know more about the use of eminent domain in Wasilla.  I'm sure there are other nits to be picked.  But recognize that, whether you tend towards loving her or hating her, there are going to be a bunch of conservatives, and yes, that includes some libertarian conservatives, who are won over -- in spades -- by this pick, of someone who is by no means an establishment figure, who not only understands but directly represents middle America, and yet has the character to gain an over 80% approval rating from her fellow Alaskans.

I can respect anyone who, upon seeing the Palin ticket, still decides to vote for Barr, write in Paul, whatever.  But to describe her actions in stepping up to this nomination, and committing to represent ethical behavior, states' rights and individual rights on behalf of all of us as she has done in AK... to describe this as pretty sickening is pretty cynical.

She ads an interesting element in this long, drawn out, national tragedy

This is supposed to be funny to Battlestar Gallactica fans. I don't know, since I've never watched the show, but I find the similarities funny:

It should be pointed out that the seriousness level of this thread should indicate I was exagerating somewhat.

That said, truth be told, Ron Paul was one of those people I voted for in the primaries because I figured he'd be the lesser of two evils. You nailed it when you pegged me as an anarchist/voluntaryist so you understand that I have a problem with anyone who carried the notion that the state at any level is legitimate. I respect and am willing to work with anyone who is working towards my goal of complete abolishment of the state's role in my life (and as of today, that includes a lot of people and I very much respect that). At the same time, from everything I can read about her, she's one of the kind of people who's ideology actually bugs me the most (I was a former Democrat turned voluntaryist, so some of the arguements for "small, but existent government" still seem horribly absurd and illogical, frankly.) because I simply can't grok the logic but there's this "je ne se qua" that once driven down to a small core causes people to cling blindly to the nation of government.

She may have slashed taxes, but she's quite proud of the fact that one of her sons is shipping off to Iraq. Being proud of your son being willfully placed in a position to kill or be killed in the name of a nation isn't something I'd attribute to someone who's "pro-liberty".

And back to the seriousness (or lack) of it in this thread, any lady who shares my bed has got to support "none" as the largest level of acceptable government. Everything else is enough to ruin the likeness of mind for me. :D

And, maybe McCain will kick the bucket in early 2009. He certainly looks like he's about to fall over from heart failure or something.

One commenter somewhere said, and I paraphrase, "Now I don't mind if McCain eats fried baloney and potato chip sandwiches wrapped in bacon on butter battered donuts thee meals a day!"

If he became president, we should hope he does.

Ah, okay, sorry I missed the intent. And I should have pointed out that "raging statist" depends on which scale you're using. On the Kanning scale, she's only slightly better than Stalin; on the NHLA/RLC scale, she would be a welcome relief.

Puke

Nothing more than pandering to the voters who want a vagina in office now that Hillary is out.

She is rather attractive. Probably another well calculated ploy by the party.  ::)

I may be cynical, but then it beats being delusional.

It's possible to vote for Palin without voting for McSame. I plan to write in Paul and Palin (prez and veep are counted separately in write-ins). If I could trust the ballot to be recorded correctly, I would check the McCain/Palin box, then write in Paul for president; if they followed state law, this would cancel the vote for McCain in favor of Paul, but still record the vote for Palin. Since I don't figure they'd get that right, I'll just write her in too.
