Luke, study history.  Study prohibition.  Anything of demand, finances and bankrolls 'criminals'.  The police put the nicer drug sellers out of business, that leaves the more violent ones.  It is called evolution.   ::)
I don't think you should be banned, but you have no part in a 'freedom' movement, because you truly do not have a clue what freedom means.

FTL_Ian

Keep waiting.  Some trolls are fun; you are not.

David

Like I said, study alcohol prohibition.  Or don't.   ::)

I don't think you should be banned, and I also don't think Ian or Vitruvian owes you an apology for speaking truthfully their opinion of you. So keep whinin'.

As for the so-called "peaceful" immigrants, you should really talk to some people who live down there near the border. Not a batch of libertarians, either. Regular, unbiased people who live down there. What I consistently hear is that the problem is really bad with Mexican criminals coming up there and committing crimes once they get on the U.S. side of the border.

Glad to oblige! ;D  I live down here near the border, and I'm not a libertarian, so my observations should be most helpful to you. Not a whole lot of crime here from the economic refugee community. There are quite a few of them down here, and they are very friendly. They work hard, are productive, and I've never felt even a little unsafe walking the streets, even late at night. I've also noticed that most of them are taking great pains to learn the English language (defying the myth that they refuse to "assimilate") Overall, they are the best neighbors imaginable. Most of them are practicing Catholics; they have a strong sense of faith and a strong sense of community. Precisely the sort of neighbors everyone should wish for. Many are very generous, and will offer you some refreshment or a piece of fruit or some flowers at bargain prices whilst you are stopped at red lights. Overall, I would like to trade in every government worker to Mexico in exchange for an undocumented Mexican economic refugee. I think the community would be vastly improved if we could make that trade.

What I meant was that Mexico punishes Central American illegal immigrants by shooting them when they go across Mexico's southern border. So we ought to do something more substantial to Mexican illegal immigrants than either giving them amnesty or returning them to Mexico to try again.

Do I think Mexican illegal immigrants should be shot who go across our border? Absolutely not. But I think there should be some punishment attached to it that is greater than being given amnesty or simply being returned back to Mexico to try again, if only because Mexico would never even dream of giving any illegal immigrants into it amnesty, and it punishes much more than returning illegal immigrants into it back to Central America in order to try again. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is the only man that I have seen that is willing to dish out punishment to them, in the form of jail and chain gangs, rather than doing what 99% of other people want to do with them, which is either give them amnesty, or at best, send them back across the border in an air-conditioned bus to try again.

I'd like to understand your position better.  Your saying the U.S. government should act more like the government of Mexico?  Yet you also state that you care about freedom and know what it is.  Does Mexico look like a free country to you?  Would you immigrate there?

I second that "Wow"!

Anyone have Arpaio's email address, or know how to get it? If he's so anxious to have my personal information, I'm going to send it to him.

I have lived in California most of my life and I agree with both Kat and Caleb. I think demonizing people because of policy you don't agree with is wrong. Can you blame any individual for wanting to create a better life for their family? If you were starving or unable to provide for your loved ones wouldn't you go where you could do better for them?

I don't agree with many of the policies regarding immigration and the welfare nanny state and I don't enjoy what these policies have done to my community over the past 50 years but I certainly would never want to harm anyone for any reason.

Instead of hating on the Hispanics, why not redirect that anger or displeasure to the policy makers?

If you like this policy so much, why don't you move there?

Caleb and everybody, when I said not libertarians, I meant not libertarians or anarchists.

I meant regular people. If you ask regular people who live in the border states what they think, they all say that the situation is way out of control and it needs to be fixed. Just take Lou Dobbs, for instance. He was a regular old anchorman who got wind of the border situation, and then he decided that he had to let the nation know about it. Just take Ron Paul, your hero, for instance. He got wind of the border situation, and he thinks it needs to be fixed, too.

lastlady

It does need to be fixed just not with chain gangs and jail.

Oh and I am a regular person...
