We all talked about how we should have handled it but I think we did alright considering.
When you walk away from the encounter, with no one arrested or in handcuffs, and only a "warning" (for speeding? for a fogged up back window?), then you've won.

Yeah, the wasted time, and the attempted and partially completed illegal search, all suck. But once the stop was initiated, it came out about as well as you could hope for. It didn't cost anyone their car, their money, their goods, or their freedom.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to figure out how to delete files quickly enough in my stupor from having been rudely awakened from my nap.

So, you needed a nap on your way home from taking a nap?  ;D

it stinks that we live in a police state and a portion of your party guests get pulled over by thugs

This kind of government exists everywhere including (if not lead by) the so-called land-of-the-Free. And, I dare say, it is going to get worse before it gets better.
I'm happy to be around friends here in New Hampshire as human evolution takes this sad (but seemingly necessary) step backward before the many, many steps forward which we are navigating. Friends make it more than quite bearable. Someone even commented on the amount of laughter in one of the prisoner-release-party videos ... all spontaneous fun as we laugh, and play, and dance, and sing our way towards that brighter day.

Freedom loving folks out there: If you ain't in New Hampshire you ain't in the right place.
Be part of the evolution. You're gonna love it here.
PLEASE COME HOME!

That damn Dale he is going to take the napping title away from me.

I left a message saying I was from Cheshire TV and wanted a comment on their officer Avery conducting illegal searches.  Somehow I doubt they'll call back.

Anyone know what I need to do in order to get a copy of the dashcam video footage from the cops vehicle? I've never tried to before, so where do I begin?

Since you were let go, there is no complaint and you can't order their court to make it available. An Open Records/FIOA Request is probably your best bet.

I've talked to some people around. Avery is well known as the one jackass of a cop that Marlow has. (meaning he's the only cop known in Marlow; not that he's the only jackass one on the force)

Heh.. he couldn't call in backup to deal with a further search/multiple arrest.

Be careful what you wish for ... the cop who stands out may be the (only) one who is right & good.

Expect, yes, hope for, no. I fully expect that any cop who pulls me over is doing so to delivery me my wallet, that I left at a restaurant, or something. If I'm dangerous, I expect to be tackled and shot at, not "pulled over". If I'm not dangerous, I expect to be left alone.

A cop who doesn't talk to me puts me on edge. Their position is that of violence. I used to very much be on the side of "not all cops are bad" but I believe that less and less and I will not make excuses. A bad encounter isn't good just because it could have been worse.

Is it fair to say someone is "a cop" if they've quit? Is it fair to say they're "right and good" if they're destroying time, freedom and property of innocent people? Either way you slice it, I'm seeing a contradiction in that statement. :S

Right—specifically an "RSA 91-A" request in New Hampshire.

This is a study on what not to do when a cop pulls you over. Watch"Busted! How do survive police encounters" <http://tinyurl.com/4asrq6>. Why answer any of his questions?

I know YOU know what to do!  ::)
That link is broken.  Got another one?  Thanks, and hope the mew farm is doing great!

Even when you know what to do, it takes practice to be able to do it when the pressure is on. It's normal to feel like you should have done something differently.

Agreed.  You do the best you can and try to improve in areas that you are no so comfortable with, and unfortunately, that process takes practice.
It should be remembered that many cops are college educated, and undoubtedly one of the areas of study is how to assert authority and to intimidate 'potentially' dangerous or unpredictable and erratic people.

I was thinking that it was nice that Dale could get a good nap after a hard week of drawing up comics. ;)
