Please understand that privacy is something that needs to be worked at to be achieved.

You've brought this up before and it rings true, particularly in modern times with the Internet and the rapid exchange of information. You and I have both said we don't want it bad enough for the amount of effort it takes in modern times so we simply remain very public and transparent.

The issue at hand is someone else's desire for respecting their wishes. Not to single you out Dale, you have always been considerate and tactful in your dealings with me. :)

It would be very rude of me to post a video on YouTube regarding your love life, for example. Folks lacking the ability to discern the shades of gray that the world of human interaction is made up of is one of my biggest differences with many participants. The other is people who claim to be individualists who make a habit of telling other people how they should feel.

Uncool is a description that the circles I have run in would describe some of the behavior.

Over time people make many posts regarding their lives... it would be very uncool to aggregate that information and present it to a wider audience that they themselves didn't want to provide it to. Now compound the sin by presenting an editorial spin that goes counter to that person's wishes.

If I was to take at face value the position that some take here, I would be left with the only option being to no longer associate on the forum or talk to those people. That would suck. I like Ian, I am respectful of much of what Dave Ridley has done.

But, I have to say that I don't care for the debating tactic of simplifying everything, especially human interactions, down to black and white/binary form. I guess the vast amounts of literature regarding the relations of humans is all nonsense.

That's a great post Tom and one I will take to heart as best I'm able.  However Murphy's does allow open carry and you see it everywhere there.  I'm not even sure I remember whether they interrupted it or not; maybe briefly in 07.

Those of you who have concerns...maybe it's best not to keep them pent up for broadcast during fair-weather-friend season.  Bring them to me whenever you feel them (some of you do this, some don't).  Sometimes I will not do what you suggest, but I would rather not wait to hear your concerns until years after you experience them.

Dave, the problem is you are oblivious to many of the subtitles involved. I have tried to talk to you and got a similar response to what you gave Friday here... ie. How does it affect Dave.

You yourself told me to discuss it on the forum... I had tried to deal with you on a personal level. The only reason I weighed in here is because it has become an issue again.

You want to be the News Guy, people need to treat you like any other News Guy. I've been associated with that world, what a bunch of mercenaries.

All this being said, you have worked hard to try and get information out. It's just that I also see the negatives associated, and you refuse to see any harm that your work may cause. No more open carry at Murphy's is there, just as one example.

You write good narration, even though I find that style of work boring. The editorializing on the fly that you do remarkably well is also the danger, a small government republican doing coverage of Anarchist issues is bound to be problematic.

One day an incident will happen and Dave will cover it because it is dramatic, and the coverage will convict someone. I have done this kind of work in the past in D.C., I have destroyed tapes to keep them out of the authority's hands, I have stopped taping because it would be damaging to my side of the issue. I have been very careful to present the issues in the vein that the principle people involved wanted to be presented.

Wow Ridley is taking abuse all over the place these days.

One of the other forums I frequent (2a oriented) dumped on him pretty good this week, as they have many times  before.

You should respect the wishes of the people you film, or they may not let you film them again. Also, they may make a stink, like now.

I mean, you don't wanna burn bridges, that's all.

Hello, I'm Brianna Moaner ;)

I agree, Sandy, stay! You're witty as hell and I like reading your blog.

Friday

To all the people who have sent me nice IM's, emails, or posted nice things to me on this thread: thanks!  I like you too!

To all the people who haven't already been through several iterations of my temper tantrums a la that's-it-I'm-LEAVING!: um, yeaaaaaahhhh, about that....  ::) :-[

To Dave Ridley:  I received your email (disagreed with its content; will not violate your privacy by quoting it here).  I also watched your followup video "Privacy: Treat Me More Like a Reporter".  I didn't think it addressed the specific concerns I raised in my last post on this forum.  I'm fully aware that anything I post here, or anywhere else on the Internet, may be reposted, recopied, etc; I'm not a complete moron.  I also am fully aware that, these days, any gathering of Free Staters is videoed by multiple people from every possible angle (frankly, I think this is taken to laughable extremes at times... do we really think we're THAT fascinating to the rest of the world?)  My primary concerns were that you quoted something I posted under a pseudonym and identified me by my full name; and that you used video footage that was not taken at some public event such as a rally, but was a one-on-one interview, and reused it over a year later for a very different purpose.  Please note that I am writing this two weeks later, *not* in the heat of anger, and that my opinion hasn't changed.  I think we will have to agree to disagree on this incident and move on.

My name is Sandy Pierre, and I approve this message.  :mblah05:

I have several statist friends who watch Ridley Report and other liberty oriented media.  Perhaps we're more interesting to some people than we are others.

I use my camera so I'm used to using it when I need to.

Welcome back Friday. :)

People can do about anything they want I suppose... but they shouldn't be suprised if they bear the consequences. Where is the uncool emoticon?

I've thought for a while that classes on social behavior might be helpful. I mean, I can be a jackass some times, but at least I am aware of it and when called on it I am quick to apologize to my friends. But, I guess that is the crux of it, the difference between friends and well everyone else.

I actually have to work to and maintain my jackass mystique.
