After the litter pick up, people can hang out at my house if they like, and carve a pumpkin to add to the festival.? There are shuttles going into downtown from around my house, so you wont have to pay the parking fee.? The festival goes from 10 am to 10 pm.? I think most people go in the evening to see all the pumpkins lit up.

From the pumpkin fest webpage:

Help us create the magic and break the world record by bringing your own jack-o-lanterns to the Pumpkin Festival?the more, the merrier!

When you arrive at the Festival, you must register your carved pumpkins for them to count towards the world record. Please follow these easy instructions to register your pumpkin:

    * Bring a carved pumpkin and a 3-inch votive candle to Railroad Square in downtown Keene the day before the event between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and log it in at the Log-in Tent?or bring your creation the day of the festival and log it in at one of the seven Official Log-in Tents located at every intersection on Main Street.
    * To be counted for the official record, all jack-o-lanterns must be carved and entered at an official Log-In Station before 6 p.m. the day of the festival.
    * Once you log in, pick a place along Main Street to show off your creation!

Remember: All jack-o-lanterns must be registered to count toward the Guinness World Record!

Keene has the record!!!  They keep breaking their own record year after year (except last year I think)

I'm actually making the trip up from NJ to go this year and see what it is all about!  First-time Keene Pumpkin Fest for me!

For those who've gone to prior Pumpkin Fests, what do you suggest doing or seeing in the area in addition to the "main event"?  I'll be up there that Friday and Saturday, and want to see/do some other things too.

Kat and Russell's is a fun place!

The trees will be just about perfect then.  I'd drive around and look at all the colors.

people can come and go from our house all day and catch the little trolleys into downtown 8)

We have some favorite walks around here also. We found a cute orchard up the hill from our part of town.

I'll definately be checking out the scenery!  Jersey has nice foliage too, but this year was so dry everything is just turning brown and falling off!

Let me know if you want to meet up with some freestaters while you're up here, and I'd be glad to help arrange it.

Yeah, that puts it off limits for us, too (when we get there). Dogs are a natural part of such festivals. Our local Quadrangle Festival includes a "just for fun" competition for best-dressed dog, smallest, largest, ugliest, funniest, etc. We drew lots of attention at the Jonquil Festival when we took a friend, and walked about with three Standard poodles.

Events that are about family, and kids, should naturally include dogs.

Thanks for the offer, but he scratches awfully bad when left alone. Just ask Dawg about damages!  :o
