My opinion of cops were the same before and after this event. This happens every day thorughout the world and has been happening for years and years.

I have the right to remain silent. It was scribed by some old guys wearing funky hairdos and for a damm good reason but to me it's a God given right.

I answer to no one but God.

Try walking up to a cop and asking him for ID. 9 times out of 10 you'll get your ass kicked.

heh no doubt...  Actually I believe he must show you his ID by "law".  But not sure on that one.

littlehawk

They are above the law. They do whatever they please and get away with it 99% of the time.

Not saying he would show it.... Just saying...   I am learning... slowly but surely..... I will get there..

Congratulations on your hard work and verdict!

I can't believe they added insult to injury by following through with prosecution, but maybe no one should be surprised.  That meter maid must have told one good whopper to convince them that they even had a chance of winning.  It's really too bad that the meter maid can't be prosecuted for obstruction, or at least made to pay you for the harm that she did to you.  If I were a juror, she would be doing jail time and made to compensate you.

I'm glad that you're happy about the verdict.  Congratuations, once again, on being so diligent and getting the verdict you sought.

if municipal governments only took care of roads, drainage, and other land improvement but not schools, you'd still be complaining - when clearly it would be just as "voluntary" as an HOA. Payment of the "tax" or "dues" is tied to ownership in real estate within the jurisdiction or HOA, and if you don't pay, they put a lien on your house and eventually force a sale of it.

i was just driving on a potholed bumpy road yesterday .... and wondered where this wonderful government was that gave us roads
they seemed to have failed the people that lived on that street .... they pay property taxes but don't get a decent road .... and they can't just call up a different company and order a new road with their tax money

that is funny :)
i have never asked a cop for id, but I have seen them respond to people asking for their badge number and/or name.
sometimes they get angry when you ask for their name or badge number
sometimes they are angry but give you their number
sometimes they proudly tell you their name, rank, and number
sometimes they refuse to answer
other times they don't answer the question and instead demand your id

if you insisted on seeing their government id card ..... i could see some of them getting hostile and possibly push you aside or worse

i have never gone down that path, so i don't know where it leads

I don't know if this still goes on, but 30 years ago the Hartford CT cops stopped using numbers on their badges and just had their names. Numbers were too easy to remember.
This protects cops because many of their victims are either illiterate or just couldn't make sense of many of the Ethnic, Gringo and Cracker names.

How about take it one step further and pull a cop over? Tell him he was weaving down the road and ask him to perform the roadside sobriety test. I like to only think of this stuff and too chickenshit to try it.

I have heard of a guy who issued a cop a parking ticket. That was pretty bold.  >:D

In the courtroom I was going to ask each officer if they would subject themselves to a drugscreen test. The Judge cut me off begore I coud get there. My basis for the question was to try and establish the reason for their aggressive behavior. Although the judge disallowed it it still was effective in sending my message to the jurors.

I am meeting with the cheif of police next week to discuss things (my case, their "mission statement" and the fact hat all 3 cops did not even know the Bill of Rights)

I also emailed the ACLU to see what they can offer, if anything.
------------------------

Here is their mission statement:

Mission Statement

The mission of the xxxxxxxxxx  Police department is to improve the quality of life of citizens, living, working, or visiting in the city. (in my case they failed to do this miserably)

In accomplishing it's mission the department acknowledges the importance of the following values in both individual employees and overall operation:

We believe that it is our responsibility to protect the constitutional rights of all persons, and that we are accountable to the community. (100% failure)

We believe that crime is not only a police problem, but also a social problem impacting all aspects of the community, and we are committed to working with the community to address these issues. (the only crime here was from the pigs)

We accept our leadership role in providing for a safe community through innovative approaches in the suppression of crime and the prevention of public disorder. (failed again)

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity. (change "highest" to lowest and that would be more accurate)

We are committed to professionalism in our operations and are dedicated to providing comprehensive personnel services to all of our employees. ( yes, like "blue code of silence" and "cover you ass" )

what great ideas you have for dealing with the cops in court and in person
it is funny to think what would happen if you tried to pull over a cop .... maybe bring ridley along and he will get his best video yet .... and we will remember you fondly.

I'm must be lost.  I thought this thread was about one's man day in court, but now I am reading about public vs. private land.  Am I missing a practical connection?

Good point.  My apologies for letting the troll under the bridge aid me in a derail. Carry on.
