Atlas Shrugged is a surprise financial success its opening weekend.

6 percent positive rating from critics, but an 85 percent positive from audience members.

As far as I'm concerned, Ayn Rand wrote everything she wrote for the sake of one person - Alex Libman.  I don't care if mobs of millions of wannabes flock to see this watered down shadow of one third of Atlas Shrugged - I doubt even 1% of the people who'll see the movie understand the book and the philosophy behind it on the same level as I do.

I didn't see the movie yet, even though it was playing nearby, for the same reason I wouldn't be caught dead at Liberty Forum / PorcFest.  The only thing an Atlas Shrugged movie could possibly achieve is good casting, to help shape the mental images from the book, and one could already tell how well that was achieved from the trailer and the clips posted online.

Nothing on P2P networks except fakes, for obvious reasons.  I'll see the film once it's on DVD, where I think it will do a lot better than in theaters, and hopefully make a profit.  I'm hoping for Parts 2 and 3 (perhaps to be released via Internet pay-per-view, which I think would bring greatest profitability), but I'm not holding my breath...

So where is it showing?

It's not showing up in the "local" Fandango listings for Manch.

I guess I don't mind waiting for a while, it's not like the story is going to be much of a surprise.

CurtHowland

Well, I found the way to do the reverse lookup on Fandango, start with the movie and find the nearest theater. Hookset Imax.

I agree it deserved to be at least twice as long as it was. Some of it felt hurried.

Having not read the book (yes, surprise), I was surprised by how early in the story the vanishing people were featured. I thought it was something that should have, well, "grown" in the telling rather than being so very much where it already begins.

Loved the ending, "You get it the way I found it." A larger than life character that deserved a larger part, that's for sure.

Oh well, like the 6 hour Dune, I'm sure they shot quite a bit more than ended up being used.

Make sure Russell doesn't sneak in his own candy and popcorn. They might pat him down (or molest him) because of who he is. Or maybe they will think he is Jim Johnson.

Kat Kanning

I'm afraid I've been put in charge of all of Russell's patdowns.

Russell Kanning

that was cool

Going to the movie and eating out was my birthday celebration. :)

I'll wait for the book to come out.    ^-^

the whole group of us liked the movie
It stopped playing in Waco, but I see it is still in many areas.
