This is pretty off-topic so I posted it under whinning.

I'm putting toghether a quick website for a local non-profit group. Has anyone had experience with GoDaddy.com for web hosting. There rates are realy cheap and domain registration is on sale for $1.99 normaly only 8.95 a year.

If anyone else has an suggestion I'd like to hear them/ Thanks.

I have several sites hosted by GoDaddy; I'm very pleased with their registration and hosting services.  FYI, their new blogging software is a bit buggy, though.

Thanks. The price is right guess I'll try them out for a few months at least.

Our Jaycees chapter uses them, good so far for about 3 years.

Shortydawkins.com is currently on godaddy. No complaints. Good price.

Thanks for the replies. I setup the account tonight.

I am thinking of using them for hosting and using mambo for content management for the Keene Free Press site.

Hostingbegin.com gives you cheap hosting, all the perks and the domain is free...too bad I did not see this post sooner.

$42/yr does it!

And their blogging software choices all work nicely as do their forums, mailing lists, chats, etc.
Check out plainfieldtaxpayers.org which I just set up for them.

I have 100+ sites with hostingbegin.com

1.99 is teaser tied to other product purchases.  Domain reg. is $8.95 year + .25 Icann reg. fee.  Great way to register.

But then you have hosting fees on top, how much are those? $9.99 a month?

My host is $3.50/mo complete.

If you just want to grab domains with no hosting, you can do that for as little as $8.88 no strings attached..and redirect them.
Plus I like LINUX because I use PHP, CGI, SSL, etc.

Hosting has been free for the past six months.  You sometimes get a free web page launcher.  A few years back I got raked spending monthly fees trying to set up websites for the first time through Homestead.... Old dogs take a longer time to learn what comes naturally to younger pups....

LOL I've met you and I'm way older....birthday comin' up too!

Well, free is good. But to pay more than $3.50/mo is not necessary and my host gives all the perks anyone or most would need.

Friday

GoDaddy charges $3.95/mo for basic hosting.

They had free hosting as recently as the last domain names registered very recently.

One page though? And what about all the services such as CGI, PHP, mySQL etc?

GT

I registered a new domain and prepaid 6 month hosting for $27 and some change. Prepaying 12 month is something like $3.16 month. It was one of the quickest easiest setups I've done.

Just noticed my karma is now +25 instead of the -12 it seems to have been for month. What did I do or not do?

Five.  Those are value addeds. Their site is pretty user friendly.

'Value addeds' means you pay more for those ...  mine are included.

So, in all the one-liners back and forth without quoting others, I've lost track...

If I wanted a host with PHP so that I could host a forum (low volume), which of the hosting companies includes things like PHP and SQL and CGI at a low price?

A number of email addresses with SMTP and POP would be nice, too...
