I think we should do brake inspections every 2.5 months but only do smog inspections every year.

I disgree with the smog inspections. That they have because a car could fail without any problems at all.

Now brakes and rust, steering and other safety issues do need to be addressed.

::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

So Kat I take it you don't like the truth about safety. ;D

Safety inspections are between you and your family and your insurance company. I contend insurance companies should be providing a service for all the money they are taking in. One of these is ensuring the item they are insuring is not going to cost their client - or them - money because of an avoidable problem. They should have a list of approved/certified/endorsed garages clients can take their cars to for inspection/service.

Also, I will not be getting into an accident because of your failure to maintain your car. It's called defensive driving.

Youi are so wrong there because if you own a car that does not meet inspection code and is a hazard to the roads and cause an accident. Well then it is others business.

What is a brake inspection and why do them often?  I inspect my brakes dozens of times a day by using them.

I own a car and ensure that it is safe to drive. I drive defensively so that others on the road do not endanger me and mine.

Well the brakes might seem like there good but maybe there not on other cars. Because you might beware of your brakes does not mean that somebody else does.

Just because you might be smart about your ride does not mean the next person is.

Ensure that there is enough brake material left to stop the car. Ensure there are no leaks in the brake system.

The quickest car inspection is to have a knowlegeable friend drive the car every once in a while. They will pick up items that you have become used to because they slowly developed.

Sure.  Here's some truth about safety.  There are risks in most everything we do.  I don't want the nanny state usurping my duty to act responsibily.   Whatever the government does, they do poorly.  Having them do safety inspections gives only the illusion of safety.  People get this idea....oh the government checked it out, so I don't have to think about it.

The idea that someone with a rust hole being a menace to society is laughably idiotic.

Cannot you tell if it takes longer to brake or makes noise by just driving and braking?

While your on the anti- government kick witch I agree with some of it. But as far as transportation goes I don't think they do a bad job there.

Thank you all, for the replies to my question, some were quite funny, I atleast have gathered thru your replies, that there is infact a state required inspection, now I guess I'll have to call the NH DMV tomorrow, to see how often I have to do this, I'm just trying to cover as many possible concerns as I can, by asking the questions here, Paul.

People should want to be more responsible when it comes to auto safety.  All of those that don't want any kind of safety regulations are talking crap.  That's all we need...a bunch of stupid hicks driving pickup trucks and drinking 6 packs.  Please, stay the hell in the South.  We don't need anymore yeehahs on the road. :protest:

It goes more then that. Like the careless yuppies that cut people off in there Volvos and Saabs and other foreign junk that cut people off and can't use there turn signals. Speeding and putting other at risk.

There is an annual inspection. The first is due within 10 days of registering your vehicle in NH. Then each year in the vehicle owner's birth month - and you have until the 10th of the following month to get it done.

If your first inspection is within 4 months of your birth month you will egt until the following year.

Inspections are done at private garages - you can pick the one you want. Repairs required to pass inspection do not have to be done at that garage - again you can pick which garage to go to - reinspection, though, must be done at the original inspection garage.

Vehicles 1996 and later must also go through an OBD II test for emissions. I do not think they are yet failing people on this test, though.

Hope this clears up some of the joking/arguing/off topic stuff here.
