So I started getting worried because I hadn't heard from Russell since yesterday morning.  Turns out he's in jail in Oakley, KS.  We're not sure why, yet.  They wouldn't tell Russell's mom, except it was some traffic sort of thing.  His dad is heading out there...it's about an hour from their home.

He was supposed to come home tomorrow  :'(

Here's the people who arrested him:

Gove County Sheriff Dept
(785) 938-2250

They said it was driving without a license.

JonM

Why don't they arrest illegal immigrants for that?

Oh my gosh Kat,

Are you okay?  Is there anything I can do?  If you want to talk I can pm my number to you.  On top of all of this now there is The Brown's horrible situation.  >:(

Damn, that's way out in the middle of nowhere. I don't know anybody out in that part of Kansas who would be able to go out there and protest, but perhaps there are some folks who can go down from Denver and politely ask the Gove County sheriff to FREE RUSSELL KANNING!

Kat Kanning

Phone calls will turn a tiny place like that upside down.

More data:
Russell had to pick a tiny place, huh?  It's still legally a dry prohibition county.

The judge threw it out, and Russell's been released. His family's headed out to pick him up.

WOOT!

Good thing I checked.  I was just picking up the phone to call those numbers.

Can you post the judges' name when you get it so we can send thank you notes?

Kat Kanning

Sure, when I find out.  They had to travel quite a ways to find a judge.

This is very good news! I know some people in Lawrence who might have been willing to go out there even though it is a 4-5 hour drive. Now they won't have to. Maybe the local law looked up this Russell Kanning guy and knew he was going to be more trouble than he was worth for them. :)

TylerM

I called. Not very helpful folks, wouldn't say much except that he had been picked up for driving on a suspended driver's license. Be honest,
I didn't know much of what to say...

OH! NM! He's out! Yeah!

Kat Kanning

Thanks for calling :)

That's cool your friends would drive out there, error.  Glad they didn't need to!

error

I still know a few people from when I used to live there. :)

Eventually I'd like to put together some sort of network of people who haven't yet made the move, who would be willing to go anywhere in the country at short notice when something like this happens.
