bump. This is coming up. Where/when are we meeting?

You want to document so I can wear the robe?  You just need to inform the court you'll be attending.

I will be willing to record. How do I inform them? Do I need to stop by in person or call? Is this in the same building as city hall?

Is there a limit to the number of equipment pieces I can bring? If I could, I'd like to have a bigger mic for better audio pickup.

The only downside to be recording, is I will be having to go to work afterward, so the video won't be up until that evening. I guess someone else could take the tape, depending on if I record audio and video together or separately.

it is in the city hall building ... I bet you could bring lots of equipment ... it doesn't matter how long the video takes

Stilll awaiting Ian's response as to how exactly to "inform" them that I'll be there. I can stop by Thursday afternoon if I have to tell them in person.

Russell Kanning

in person is always best for bureaucrats ... it puts them the most ill-at-ease

Call the District Court and ask for the clerk of court.  (I think his name is Pat) Tell him you're with CTV and what case you want to film & when.

I can't find anything about the court's contact information on the Keene website, but from google I gathered the following:

Keene District Court
3 Washington Street
P.O. Box 364
Keene, NH 03431-0364

Justice: Hon. Edward J. Burke
Special Justice: Hon. Howard B. Lane
Clerk : Larry S. Kane, Esq.
Phone : (603) 352-2559

I guess I'll call that number and see if anyone answers.

Quote(a) The presiding judge should permit the media to photograph, record and broadcast all courtroom proceedings that are open to the public.  The presiding judge may limit electronic media coverage if there is a substantial likelihood of harm to any person or other harmful consequence.  Except as specifically provided in this rule, or by order of the presiding justice, no person shall within the courtroom take any photograph, make any recording, or make any broadcast by radio, television or other means in the course of any proceeding.

::) what?

Learning to read like a lawyer can make you feel so... dirty ...but it can help you decipher the gibberish.

Sentence 2 says you can't take photos or recordings or broadcasts, except as allowed. Sentence 1 says the judge will allow it unless it jeopardizes someone's life or well-being.

Sentence 1 has priority: the judge should allow it unless there is a likelihood of harm.

But...what does sentence 3 say?!?! ;)

Coconut

Well I called. I wasn't so articulate so the woman who answered got a bit frustrated with me

"I'd like to inform you that I will be at the courthouse for a trial Monday morning with video recording devices"
"And what is your name"
"<name>"
"I don't see anything."
"It's not my trial."
"Oh. Well who is the defendant? That's how I have to look it up!"
"Kanning"
"And what are you in relation to the trial?"
"I'm with Cheshire TV and FreeKeene.com as a member of the press."
"Oh well you have to say these things! Hang on"
...a minute later
"When you get here Monday morning with your equipment just check in with the bailiff."
"Thanks."

Russell Kanning

to many places .... they treat "the media" or press totally different .... for better or worse

Coconut

Someone walking into a courthouse decked like a judge sounds like a viral video to me. But it's mostly just luck what hits national attention.

Russell Kanning

It will work into the future with our crowd at least. :)
