Newmarket Report

Tonight at the Newmarket Business Association meeting, a property owner and the town manager finally came forward about the possibility of his property being taken after I asked the town manager about eminent domain.

I introduced an anti-eminent domain motion that was passed, changed, repealed, reintroduced, and finally passed that states:

"We discourage the use of eminent domain during the downtown revitalization unless necessary as a last resort."



When I talked to one woman after the meeting, she said, "When he talked about his property being taken, you were like WHOOSH and sprung into action!"

Maybe Newmarket people can join us in Londonderry and then Londonderry people got to Newmarket.

It's the best I could do.  They passed and then rescinded my first motion which was amended to oppose ALL eminent domain for any reason. 

This vote and the opinions expressed by everyone in the meeting sent a strong message to the Town.
