Just wondering. Several people in Russle's thread mentioned they thought such a referendum would succede.

Well, why not try it?

When I get some free time, maybe I'll try to put together a site about the pros of NH secession for both conservatives and liberals.

Does NH even have state-wide referendems?

I don't think we have those sorts of things.
Some Rep could propose that NH seceed.

Even if it won't succeed it will at least bring awareness. I mean why did Badnarik run for president knowing full well that he wasn't going to win.

What sorts of things DO voters have in NH?

Not that I want voters to have more power -- we would more quickly sinc into democratic socialism if they did. Do they have pettitions or other such things?

Or I know. A BEtter thing would be to loby locally to have local governments tell the State they want secession. That would be an even more decentralized method.

Might be easier just to have a rep sponsor a bill to secede.? ?I think one of the other Porcupines is considering this.  It would generate publicity without us even needing to promote it, more if we chose to.

I once did a petition drive, then tried having someone sponsor a bill for the same thing.? The bill has been more effective and less work, since it more easily generates publicity.

A statewide ref might eat up too much effort, but a bill would not.   And ya thats right I don't think we have them anyway.

New Hampshire doesn't have a referendum process, and I am assured that it is unlikely we ever will.

However, New Hampshire DOES have a pretty good legislative system.  ALL BILLS come out of committee and go before the Legislature.

So all it takes is ONE state rep to put a secession bill forward, and it WILL get a vote.  Plus (and this is far more important, from my point of view,) it will get LOTS of media attention and hopefully start a national discussion on the issue.

You know, until we can get more of the free staters here and active, talking about secession may be a waste of time.  It's a great idea, and one that needs some consideration.  I just think that the timing may not be right, and there are so many other issues that we could address more effectively.

What would be the harm in trying to pass a bill like calibaba77 suggested?

We can do it every year until it passes! Just like the yearly UN flag burn :-)

The prize is freedom before the other guys .... so we don't have to bet anything else.
