I remember when I used to think that "congenital" was a very, very naughty word.

Now I realize that it just means "with genitals."

What a relief!

Actually, it means "born with genitals." ;D

I got three pages from her today. I think they may have been a couple of weeks old. Damn, I wish she were out. I hate Connecticut. At least Russell's jailers seemed to want to be rid of him. Lauren's are willing to throw away the key.

Dave Ridley

look at it as them underwriting her message.

Thank God for Lauren Ann Canario.

They just seem that way. They all have a breaking point. Lauren is having a much larger effect on them all because of all the time she is spending in there than I ever did.

Got these to send to Lauren:

I think that in NH we THE PEOPLE still have reason; while in CT all they have left is the STATE.  To see the apathy of passers-by while demonstrating on the streets in New London is LITTERALY sickening.
I GOT MUCH BETTER RESPONCES FROM THE PEOPLE (during a shift change) WHO WORK AT THAT PRISON (in Niantic) THAN FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC (in NL).

I must return to that PRISON gate to play again - soon.
Dec. 23 22 anyone?

John

I only have a few songs to play but maybe we could also do some carolling.

Nobody should be in jail on their birthday.

Russell Kanning

So ... do you think we will keep getting letters from Lauren or does she not want to have to ask for supplies and such?

Lauren's birthday, the 23rd is the same as Festivus...  : :D

Rather than figuring out why they are holding Lauren, the State of Connecticut's Department of Correction is investigating a parody flyer being circulated at Cheshire Correctional Institution.  They've certainly got their priorities straight.  Even the governor cares.

Officials probe source of flier that ridiculed prison life

December 9, 2006

CHESHIRE, Conn. --State officials are trying to determine who circulated a flier at a state prison that parodies a real-estate pitch, touting the cells as "luxurious apartments" in a highly secure "gated community."

State prison advocate Joanna Ferris, alerted by an inmate at Cheshire Correctional Institution, notified the state Department of Correction this week about the one-pager flier, The Hartford Courant reported in Saturday's editions.

That inmate, whose name has not been released, told Ferris that prison guards were circulating the flier and considered it amusing.

Correction officials said they have launched a probe in hopes of determining who wrote and distributed the flier, which they describe as insensitive and offensive.

The sheet shows three photos of prison cells with a checklist of amenities, including two-bedroom suites, excellent security, bilingual staff and a "high acceptance and retention rate."

It promotes the residences, "CCI Estates," as a place with close proximity to schools and the public library, laundry service and no mandatory credit or background checks.

Its final line: "Once you try CCI Estates, you may never leave."

Correction department spokesman Brian Garnett said this week that the agency's internal affairs department is investigating, and considers the flier inappropriate and offensive.

Others agree, including Gov. M. Jodi Rell, the union that represents prison guards and officials at Making the Walls Transparent, a prison advocacy group.

"Inmates are there to be punished by the courts, they don't have to be punished and ridiculed by the guards ... They don't have to be humiliated in this manner," said Ferris, director of the state's Waterbury-based chapter of the group.

David Testa, president of the union that represents correction employees at Cheshire, said the organization supports the department's investigation and does not condone the flier.

He said the flier is "not representative of how the union feels about our facility."

"We do not believe the Cheshire facility is a country club," he said.

The Cheshire Correctional Institution is the state's largest high-security institution and houses long-term adult offenders. It has about 1,300 inmates and 425 state employees.

I'm dropping a copy of that in the mail to Lauren. :)
