Thank you, Lauren.  I'd appreciate it immensely.  Kira also offered to do some.

I wonder how many people would have to be arrested, and held in jail for long periods of time after refusing to pay bail, using up space that may be needed for REAL criminals, before they would start to realize that it's really expensive to have a bunch of stupid petty laws. As long as everyone just goes along nicely and caves in, I'm sure it's actually profitable for them with fines and such.

Building jails, and filling them has become a very lucrative business. No end in sight as long as new jails continue to be built. The jails are already full of non-violent "offenders". Makes me sick.

Here in my hometown we are getting our second jail right in the middle of downtown. I overheard some cops talking the other day about how our local judges are getting set to be tougher so they can fill the new jail.

Not expensive for them

We must make it so.

The jail Russell is being held in is overcrowded, and Cheshire County is in the process of building a new $40 million jail. Yuck.

Oh my...

Is it a New Hampshire thing, or am I just now noticing this naming trend?

I like that pic of the protest.

What's the penalty for driving w/o a license?  They can hold him for what, up to 6 months?

:(

I'm in Manch and won't get off work 'til 430ish, but if there's anything I can do then let me know...

Jared

i wish i had the testicular fortitude that russell has.

Russell's really in jail for noncooperation with the state.  He could easily have been out the same night.  I'm not sure what the max sentence is for noncooperation.  He told the judge, "I don't want to be a part of any of this."

Thanks for the offer of help, Quantrill!

Thanks, Dada, for spreading the story!

So when asked for his plea Russell's said "whatever" and the judge entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf? That judge wears some lacy bloomers behind that bench. It's way past time to point out to these judges that they are not welcome to enter a plea on our behalf.

No telling what that judge will be caught with next if he is willing to breech basic protocol. We should also not be compelled to address their "court".

Down with kings.

Kat Kanning

It's not this judge, I believe it's standard proceedure for them to say no plea = not guilty.
