We're headed to Manchester airport again today.  Hopefully it will be completely boring.

I will take pictures of TSA agents :-X

Quick, alert the media! "Pre-teen boards airplane without photo ID!"

Do they single out children for secondary screening, too? For that matter, what is the cutoff age for ID? When a child without ID boards an aircraft, is anyone required to show ID on her behalf?

She actually has ID, but they never ask for it.  No secondary screening for her, so far, except swabbing her luggage for explosive in Boston.  If they try and make her go through the backscatter imagers sometime in the future, I'm going to try and get them thrown in jail for child pornography.

I know you accompany her, including going as far as the gate, but what is actually required? Could she show up via taxi, with no adult escort, and go through the entire process alone?

I think you see where I'm going with this... "Less than a week later, another member of the Kanning household flew from Manchester airport without identification, and without any secondary screening. No identification was requested by airport staff or TSA screeners."

Then again... the typical government response would be to "correct" this discrepency, by stripping 6 year olds to their underwear.

I just sent the PR to a contact at the Associated Press in Concord.

They already knew Russell's name before I even mentioned it.   :o

Hah. Too true. I think this falls into the category of "don't give them any ideas."

James Maynard, a spokesman for the Free State Project in New Hampshire, said the group does not officially support Kanning or Fisher in their protests.

"The Free State Project is not a political organization of any sort," he said. "It does not take any stand one way or another on the issues. It's merely a vehicle to gather liberty lovers from around the country to gather together in one area to try and make life better for all."

So, have they revoked your memberships yet?

"Does not officially support" probably means most of them support it "unofficially".  ;)

Kat Kanning

What would it matter to us if they revoked our memberships?  We've already moved and completed our agreement with them.

Well when I got there, the airline called down to the gate to say we're coming, something they've never done before.  Some head honcho TSA guy followed us around the airport outside the secure area.  Another seemed to be waiting inside with a cell phone.  The TSA guys who actually interacted with us were really nervous and making sure they got every step of the process perfect.  Other than that, nothing extraordinary happened there.

Down in Bedford, I ran into the same FBI car (type and color, doubt it was the exact car) only it had US Government plates this time.  I think this was accidental, but the guy driving seemed to recognize me and I think it freaked him, like he thought I was following him or something.  He didn't turn off at the FBI building, but pulled off to the side of the road, talking on the phone and pointedly looking away  ::)  I think he followed me a little while...to 101A, but apparently decided I wasn't doing anything but going home.

ROFL!!!

Was there an increased police presence as well?

When Jennifer with WMUR interviewed the airport and TSA, she asked why there was increased security, and the airport said there was no increase in security.  They said they were only following normal procedures.  Then she said "but there IS a visible increase in police presence!"  And the TSA guy was like "uhhh... we were just following standard procedure."  She caught them in a lie!   ;D

Kat Kanning

It looked normal....about maybe 1/4 of the airport personnel/police even though the airport was much busier yesterday than last Saturday.

As you're well aware, the feelings are mixed... nobody I'm aware of is even talking about revoking 'membership' (it's participant, not member, anyway), because you aren't advocating violence or racism, which would be really the 2 big 'revoke' issues... the 3rd being if you were falsely claiming the entire FSP was represented by you.

Added later: A 4th reason (based on policy) is "Participants who are deemed detrimental to the accomplishment of the Free State Project's goals may also be removed. "  I don't think you've crossed that line, either.

I may disagree with your methods but I support your right to them, as I've said publically in a few places.

Somehow I missed this LTE from the Concord Monitor on June 7th:

Don't trivialize, LESLIE DARIENZO, Wellington, Fla. - Letter

Your June 7 editorial ridiculed Russell Kanning for protesting the bully tactics of airport security. The author's talents would be put to better use by researching and reporting on the masses of citizens who support him. Trivializing his motives doesn't invalidate the issue.
