It's boiling hot in FL.  How do you stand it, PatK?

John

Some chalk kinda looks like bullets.
Plus, we used to talk about water guns.

Maybe send some to Pat.

In my head, I keep hearing: "Keep On Chalkin' For A Free World."

If Onley we knew someone that could work with those lyrics...hmmm.

This is to the studio version, which has an extra verse ... and the listeners deserve fair measure!
You may change that second line if you like.

CHALKIN' FOR A FREE WORLD  ("Rockin' In The Free World"—Neil Young)
COPYRIGHT JA 2013 by Sam A. Robrin.  Creative Commons, blah, blah, woof, woof.   Go ahead and use it (hey, I lifted the melody), but if you make a little money on it, I want some!

Chalked colors on the street—
      Read, writin' true—
And a cop who wants to beat
     Up an activist or two.
They can justify all their violence:
Judge and prosecutor will declare the charges make sense.
They'll say we're vandals, chase us till we're caught,
But the crime we're committing is our speech and thought.

Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.

We've seen how Russell—who would live
As a peaceful sort of man
With a lot to give—
      Does the best he can.
But he sees injustices, and he has to take a stand:
He speaks for liberty with chalk in hand.
This crooked system says he has to be confined
For expressing all the love that he feels in his mind.

Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.

They have a billion billion laws
      That all mean control
Over your mind and body—some day, your soul.
We've got to speak and write and spread the word:
The liberty message can't be deterred!
Drag me into that courtroom, I'll testify:
"So help me, God—LIVE FREE OR DIE!"

Keep on chalkin' for a free world.
Keep on talkin' for a free world.
Keep on walkin' for a free world.
Keep on chalkin' for a free world.

OK who will call Neil for the benefit concert?

OK who will call Neil for the benefit concert?

I did some work for Neil's stage manager, on Neil's ranch.  He said that Neil liked the way I drove on and off the ranch without making a commotion.  I'm sure that doesn't mean shit, so maybe you should call him.

There's also this old one, if you want to get Lou Reed into the act:

CHALK IT UP TO TYRANNY  ("Walk on the Wild Side"—Lou Reed)

Walks the walk and talks the talk, Russell Kanning!
Chalked the sidewalk with "Free Bradley Manning."
Cops balked at the way he was dressed—
First walk-chalker to face arrest.
     State bullshit that
You can chalk up to tyranny.
     Petty hassling
You can chalk up to tyranny.

Officer Thompson strutted his way through town
Like Freddy Krueger—via Bozo the Clown.
Thinks the law comes down to
Anything he wants to tell you to do.
     That's one more crime
You can chalk up to tyranny.
     Another autocrat cop
You can chalk up to tyranny.

   And the activists say
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
      (No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no NOOOO!)

Kat was showing where she draws the line.
Bored cops see a chance to chain and confine
Bragging about how nice they were
As they continued to hassle her,
     That's one more crime
You can chalk up to tyranny.
     Lost liberties
You can chalk up to tyranny.

Cops dragged Emperor Evan across the brick
They laughed like Conrad Veidt in some old war flick.
Every twitch and muscle spasm
Brought his tormenters to orgasm—
     One more crime
You can chalk up to tyranny.
     Ominous parallels
You can chalk up to tyranny.

Little Sophia went on drawing pictures
Innocent of burgeoning State strictures.
Will they go after toddlers next?
It's happened—check any history text.
     One more crime
You can chalk up to tyranny.
     Atrocities
You can chalk up to tyranny.

   And the activists say
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
   No no-no no-no no-no-no
      (No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
      No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
         (No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
         No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
         No no-no no-no n-no-no-no
         No no-no no-no n-no-no-no  NOOOO!)

[on fade:]
Activists
Chalk it up to the tyranny.

        Free Staters
           Walk the walk against tyranny.

         Free people
            Talk out against tyranny.

Sounds like they're going to let him go next thursday.  He's at Jack Hartwell detention center.

Kat Kanning

I talked to the lawyer guy for a while.  They're going to drop all the chalking charges.  They're just keeping him for 'failure to appear' and giving him 30 days for that.  He's got some kind of hearing/trial next Thursday, when he should be released.  The guy said Russell's in good spirits, and talked his ear off about truck driving.  Some family friends and some liberty activists from Dallas attended.  I should be able to get back to TX next Thursday to be there.
