"I'm still attached to the 'old testiment' of this genre... "War Pigs" still rings true today."

If you consider this tune to be as you describe it, buy The Hidden Hand's MTD album and crank up Densensitized....although the lyrics are about gov't propaganda and control of the mass media instead of 'nam, I guarantee that you'll feel the same way that you felt the first time you heard War Pigs.....*smiles*....

For me, the biggest sacrifice in moving to NH is leaving the music scene of the mid-Atlantic area, considered to be the biggest hotbed in the country for underground "stoner" / "doom" metal.  Hopefully the interest in this type of music is increasing in NH.  One of my biggest worries is that of finding other old-school metal musicians to work with (I play bass), and that Boston will probably be the closest or perhaps the only place where these type of shows happen on a regular basis.  I would be EXTREMELY interested in hearing more about the NH scene for this type of music, if anyone here happens to go to the 3/25 show, or if anyone already in this scene in NH happens to contribute to this thread....

Boston used to have a huge hardcore/punk scene.  It is still alive, just not huge.  Here are a couple labels,
http://www.perfectvictim.com/ and http://www.bridge9.com/ .

My favorite hardcore band was Blood for Blood (out of Boston) but they are not really around any more.  The new version, http://www.whitetrashrob.com/ , is nice but less hardcore.

Don't forget about all of the music fests in the area.  Of course, 1 or 2 Warped Tours and an Ozzfest are Guaranteed.  The area also has the NEMO Fest http://www.nemoboston.com/ , Sounds of the Underground http://www.soundsoftheundergroundtour.com/ , and Locobazooka (only a few min from NH) http://www.locobazooka.com/

I saw Ramallah here in WI about a month ago, while not as hard as Blood for Blood perhaps, they were pretty good, and I'm seriously impressed with the lyrical content. For instance:

Here come the 757's.

If you don't ask why
then you deserve to die
just like the millions that
are ground under foot
by the powers that be
and their policies
and a society
that lets ther bosses
do as they please
and never asks why
even as the death tolls rise
until some 757's
start to fall from the sky
and some more innocent die
and still we don't ask why
instead we fall in line
and we drink up the kool aid.

-chorus-
If they shot Kennedy
just imagine what
they'll do to you and me.

but you still believe

Alright thats enough copyright violation. Thats just half of one song.

Does Boston still have it's segregated straightedge scene?

A girl on one of my local forums, texarkanarocks.com, uses that as a signature.  ;D

Boston does still have a good hardcore / punk scene.  The Bags and Murphy's Law are still around.  Saw a great Boston band called Lamont at the Emissions From The Monolith festival in 2004.  But travelling to Boston for shows would mean being subjected to seatbelt laws at the present time.  In the near future, what if crossing the state line requires having a "real ID"?  Lack of any significant music scene activity in NH could potentially become a HUGE problem for me in the future.  The whole point of moving to NH is to avoid being subjected to BS laws.  I'd much rather work on building up what's already there, than have to go all the way to Boston every time I wanted to go out (I really don't "go out", unless it has something to do with music).  I'd much rather hear about what's going on in the underground music scene in NH, we already know what Boston is all about.....

"Oiled joints"?  Hmmmmmm.....haven't had one of those since a Grateful Dead show back in 1990....*smiles*.....

Lots of NH is in the Boston MSA.  It is basicly the same thing.  The NH section just has less laws and less crime.  It's like a 10 to 40 min drive into MA to get to lots of the shows.  Like if you were in Balt and going to a show in DC or something.

I hear you though.  From what I've heard, people keep recommending the Portsmouth area for hardcore music.

I decided to Yousendit a couple of the NH/pro-freedom related tracks.

Granite State Destroyer (Meaning he's a destroyer from New Hampshire, not that he's trying to destroy New Hampshire)

The Complete Outlaw

New Hampshire's Alright If You Like Fighting

Up In The Country

Go Cave!

Blizzards, Buzzards and Bastards

I think Free Talk Live should start using Scissorfight riffs as their going-to-and-coming-back-from-break music.
