I wonder if it would be more palatable to the mass of legislators if it were set up through the state liquor stores which already check IDs, and taxed as a new source of revenue, rather than making it less illegal than alcohol.

Screw that.  Those stores need to go away, no need to suggest they get more powerful.

You cant just completely unravel the entire ball of yarn in one sitting...its too drastic a change for anyone...If you are going to have people actually listen to you on this subject, you need to take a moderate approach and be able to compromise into the change...otherwise the anti people are able to play you off as a "nut job stoner"...people have been being brainwashed for a very long time and not having anything else to reverse that except someone screaming "DOWN WITH THE GOVERNMENT!!!" isnt going to work.

getting the bills to the floor and having people like LEAP and perhaps local law enforcement and financial advisors testify on the pros and cons and taking a moderate approach is our best bet to making progress

Yep... that's exactly the tack we've been taking with the NH Liberty Alliance and NH Common Sense

I expect a smaller-scale "personal-use decrim" bill to be submitted in the fall; I expect the LEAP guys to come up and testify again (as they did this past spring).

If you'd like to meet a bunch of State Reps who favor decriminalization face-to-face, there's an opportunity this evening at the NHLA Liberty Dinner.

That sounds good.  It sounds similar to the law that has been serving Maine for years.

I also assume you expect them to fail...no?

In the Senate, maybe.
In the House, it all depends on who sponsors the bill, and who speaks in favor on the floor.

There's a lot of useful things you can learn by spending a few months sitting in on the relevant committees, and talking in a friendly manner with the committee members.

The one thing I will say is that a personal-use decrim bill would be a HELL of a lot easier to pass the House if the Republicans were still in power. Most of them, including the current and former cops, are at least pragmatic enough to accept that it doesn't make sense to bust a kid just because he has a joint or two on him. It's the Dems, especially the old-timers who are now chairs of committees (like Health & Human Services, Criminal Justice, and Commerce) that are completely irrationally opposed to even the tiniest common-sense decrim measures.

With all due respect, I think Denis has been drinking the GOP kool-aid again...   :o

If we can get a well-written, credibly sponsored bill (we are well on the way, I think), we should be able to get an OTP from the Criminal Justice committee, and that will probably carry it through the house.

Keep saying s*** like this, MD -- you're a wonderful source of inspiration!   ;)

... and if it gets that OTP, it will be because of Republicans like the former Chair supporting it, and despite the opposition of the Democrat that presently heads it up.

I'm not 100% sure about that last part.  The chair is loyal to his governor, and will probably do the governor's bidding, but we will get bipartisan support on the committee.

This is the sort of thing we can discuss this weekend -- not much of a forum conversation.   ;D

How concealed are the marijuana smokings at porcfest?

Fluff and Stuff

I don't even know if it happens.  I have never seen it.  Maybe it happens at 2am or something in some dark corner or maybe I am just not popular enough :(  It be honest, there is not much smoking of any kind at porcfest, now drinking....oh boy

Of course it would be a Bad Idea to be blatant about it -- ie, not in public areas.
That said, I do know that it's not at all uncommon to smell a lovely fragrance drifting from someone's tent, or from a campsite that's nestled into the trees.
I have even heard that some people don't smoke at all.

I hear marijuana affects a person's memory.  Sure you didn't see it and maybe forget a little bit?   :icon_pirat:

Given that Gunstock is not exempt from the War on Drugs, I'd expect any marijuana-using campers to be discreet (but not unfriendly).

Be discreet. This is, after all, a government-run facility.

saw this link on the DEA website...thought it was a little "interesting"...

has anyone read the propaganda the DEA is producing on marijuana recently?

i love the idea of having a government agency openly advertising targeting its citizens

they say there is no positive effect marijuana has for any medical reason and that MJ legalizers use the medicinal argument as a trojan horse for a full scale all inclusive DRUG LEGALIZATION

all this talk of MJ being an extremely dangerous substance by DEA and then the people in charge of making anti MJ TV ads are saying they had to start rethinking thier ad campaigns because the general public felt they were being lied to because those who had smoked MJ claimed the ads were simply scare tactics and no truth (scientific or otherwise) was even close to being attached to them...
