No offense or anything, but this thread has got very boring.

To the self-appointed lawyers:  Lauren is not saying that there is no law. She is simply refusing to comply. No more need for any rabbis to spin their version of the "lawr" (as they call it up here.) The lawr is an ass, why must we discuss it like its some sort of fun game?

To ethan:  Give it a rest. I suspect your negative karma has less to do with your georgist rhetoric than it does the fact that you criticize anyone who does anything.

I am not criticizing Lauren. I think non-violent, civil disobedience is the only moral position.

If you break the law, you willingly and lovingly go to jail and morally shame your captors into releasing you and possibly change the law (or possibly push the jurisdiction to a more local level). In Birmingham, the bus boycotters returned to the buses after 18 months. The laws were still on the books but nobody enforced them. Those that continued to sit at the lunch counters and got arrested, changed the way public accommodation laws were enforced in this country (many people still believe that private property supercedes the lawmakers ability to regulate commerce).

I believe Lauren has a common right of way for foot travel that runs within the roads and sidewalks. I think her argument breaks down the farther away from foot travel you get (bike, horse, motorized vehicle, etc) on collectively owned roads. Most people in NH are going to agree that we can collectively make up the laws via our elected representatives (majority rules) of the collectively owned roads that supercede the common right of way because of the bodily harm to property and life that can occur the farther away from foot travel one gets. On sidewalks where anything other than foot travel is restricted, our common right of ways as an individual equal right takes precedent.

I have found it stimulating .... maybe it helps to have the teachers of the law and ethanallen on ignore. :)

I called the Milford District Court just now.  Lauren has not been arraigned, and apparently no arraignment is on the schedule.  The clerk would not give out the judge's name - she said it would just depend on who was there at the time.  I asked if it was normal for someone to be denied due process and the clerk said she did not know.

Winchester Woman Denied Due Process

By Kat Kanning

Lauren Canario of Winchester is being imprisoned in Hillsborough County Jail without due process of law.  Those who are imprisoned in New Hampshire are supposed to be arraigned within 24 hours of being arrested.  Judges at Milford County Courthouse denied Lauren arraignment and sent her back to jail when she exercised her right to remain silent during court proceedings.  She has remained in jail for over two weeks without arraignment and without possibility of a trial and release.

Lauren is a nonviolent activist who believes she does not need anyone's permission to keep a car and drive it down the roads.  She refused to register her car with the state, which eventually led to her state driver's license being suspended.  She was arrested on October 3rd and has refused to cooperate with her captors.

Lauren is being held in isolation and has so far been unable to communicate with her friends and family on the outside world.  Prison officials have refused to answer questions about whether she is being tortured, whether she is under bright lights 24 hours/day, whether attack dogs are used in the facility.  The only comment from the jail is that she is being treated just like any murderer or rapist in the facility.

Oh my gosh!  I had no idea that she could be being treated this way!  Do you think a large protest would help?  Like if we could get 30 or more people together?
They actually said, she is being treated just like any murderer or rapist?  Assholes!  What can I do?  Through this thread I was wondering what could be done because Lauren doesn't want a lawyer or anything, right?

  ...What can I do?...

Talk to people about Lauren and ask them if they think what is happening to her is right.
Ask the Judge and prosecutor.
Ask your family members.
Ask any politician if Lauren Canario should be held indefinably for not having government papers.
You will have to be ready with:  No she is not an alien.
And no she is not a terrorist.

Will do!  I've already talked to my family and there are 5 to 7 of us that would turn up for a protest on the weekend! My hubby is ready to make signs!

nice article Kat.
It is interesting that she has never been even pulled over in winchester.  I wouldn't trumpet that to the winchester politicians or police, but I do wonder if they are choosing to Ignore her.
It occurred to me, that if they are detaining her because she will not cooperate, than she is our first Jose Padilla.

I'm looking for specific and reliable information about the ID process in Nazi Germany. Anyone well-educated on the subject? My first cartoon on AnarchyInYourHead.com is going to be about Lauren and I want to post a little blog entry with it providing a bit of explanation. I may also link to the video of Lauren and Jim's protest of the National ID.

Also, who speaks German? I need the translation for an agent asking someone for their traveling papers.

I put "Your papers please" into a translator and got "Ihre Papiere bitte" but I don't trust it. For all I know, it could be the translation for asking the person in the next stall over for some toilet paper.

"Bitte" is correct for "please".
"Papiere" looks close enough.
Find a German and ask, if you get punched you will know.

Ausweis bitte
It's been a long time for me. Would that first word be pronounced "owshweez"?

Ausweis bitte

What's the proper English translation of that?

"Identity card, please."

http://www.google.com/search?q=ausweis

ausweis is pronounced ous vice. "ous" as in "house". The "v" is softer than the English translation, between a "w" and a "v". bitte has two syllables, with a schwa sound as the vowel in the second syllable and the accent on the first.
